Can You Identify This Rhody?

Can you identify this rhododendron?  It's blooming a week or two early.

The rhododendron has grown to the roof line. When we moved to our house seven years ago,  it was two feet tall. It didn't bloom for several years, and I thought it was in too much shade.

When it bloomed three years ago, I was stunned, not only by the gorgeous color, but by the size of the blooms. They're nearly the size of my head (ok, I have a small head).

But I need your help. I haven't been able to determine what variety of rhododendron it is. Do you know?

Yes, I love this plant! It's partially blocking the kitchen window and when I look out I see four or five huge pink blooms.

I can't believe how large your Rhodie is. I have several in my woodland garden and they are struggling along. It looks like they may blooms this year and ironically it has been 3 years since they were planted. Maybe that is the magic number for them to get established.

Karin, yes, it does seem to take several years for rhodies to get established (at least in my garden). But patience was well rewarded with this one!

I hope yours bloom this year. A couple other of my newer rhodies had buds set this winter, but something happened and by spring the buds were no longer there.
