Sorry for the delayed reply - I was away for a few days at a spiritual retreat at the beach.

Pumpkydine, yes, the garden is doing well for July. Judging from the leafless bush beans, it looks like the rabbit had a few good meals while we were away ...

Cat, It's only recently started to get extremely dry here, so the garden looks better than usual for late July. We got lucky with a few pop-up thunderstorms in the last few weeks. I like the little furry visitors as long as they don't get out of control :)

Bridget, yes, gardenias are beautiful. The blooms only last a day or so in the heat, but I enjoy them during their brief life ...

Donna, it's interesting your pineapple lilies bloomed earlier in PA. I usually protect greens from the bunnies with hardware cloth. But I never had a problem with them eating bean plants until this year. Now the remaining pole beans are protected with netting.

Cathy and Steve, torenia and hostas sound like a nice combo. I can imagine that if there were several bunnies I would have had more damage. Fortunately, so far only one seems to have found the garden - and now the plants I want to protect are protected, so I can enjoy the bunny more!

Carolyn, I think torenias look great in their own pots. What is the cultivar you found? It sounds beautiful.Sheilahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16932826147522119761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1696676219167858431.post-20437114993973004992011-07-21T09:39:09.920-04:002011-07-21T09:39:09.920-04:00I love torenia. The little bunnies are cute but two years ago, they were the ate our vegetable garden right down to the dirt - cucumber and squash vines and all!

That torenia is a favorite of mine as well - I have it growing with hostas in the shade garden.

Despite the weather, your garden is lovely... I do however use raised beds and put netting over them to keep the little devils at bay from the veggies...Donnahttp://gardenseyeview.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1696676219167858431.post-82138639493102840652011-07-20T03:51:34.926-04:002011-07-20T03:51:34.926-04:00Beautiful selection of blooms. They have really enjoyed quite a few plants this year but it's so dry, I'm sure there isn't much out there beyond the fence. Love all the colors and the little patch of fur(rabbit) just tops it off beautifully.pumpkydinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12496871977941295456noreply@blogger.com
